Died at her home in this village, Sat. Nov. 20, 1886, of inflammation of the
stomach, Mrs. Wm. Aspel, in the 57th year of her age. Mrs. Aspel, whose maiden
name was Rose Kane, was a native of Ireland and came to this country with her
parents when but a little over 15 years of age. They settled in Janesville
where a year later she was married to James Conners, who was killed in the
army in 1863. In 1873 she married Wm. Aspel and moved to this place where she
lived until removed by death. She was the mother of 5 children - 3 sons & 2
daughters, all of whom are now living, the youngest being 13 years old. Mrs.
Aspel was an extra good woman ever ready to lend a helping hand in sickness or
in time of need. Her loss will be sorely felt by her family and neighbors.
Father C.R. Kelly of Brodhead preached her funeral sermon in the Catholic
Church Sunday afternoon. Her remains was buried in the cemetery adjoining.

Joane Kingman was born about 1622 in England, the daughter of Henry Kingman
and his wife Joanne. Her father, mother and siblings came to Dorchester,
Massachusetts with Reverend Hull's company, arriving 7 June, 1635.[1]

Joane's siblings, all born in England:

Alice, b. near 1615, m. Unknown Bernard, possably Richard, d. before 24 May,
1667. Edward, b. near 1618. Anne, b. near 1625. Thomas, b. near 1627. John, b.
near1632. Bridget, m. 13 May, 1649, Tobias Davis of Roxburry. Henry, d. May,
1660. Joane married Thomas Holbrook Jr of Braintree.[2]

In February, 2016 it seems that Thomas Holbrook-84 has three wives, two of
which are named "Jane Kingman" His marriage to the third, Jane Powyes-5 is
well documented. The two "Kingman" wives seem to have become attached when a
"Jane Kingman" is mentioned as his wife in a statement attributed to Thomas.
There was a statement made by Thomas Holbrook that Jane Kingman was his wife.
This statement has not been located or proven to be fact. It is likely this
Jane Kingman is really Joanna Kingman, Thomas-84's son, Thomas-85's wife. [3]
It is my opinion that the "Jane Kingman" named in the statement is actually
Joanna Kingman-6, the wife of Thomas Holbrook-85, Thomas Holbrook-84's son,
and should removed from Holbrook-84, be merged, and merged into Kingman-6.
Birth

Notes for William MAC GARAIDH

WALKER: The Gaelic form MACNUCATOR derives from "Mac an fhucadair" ('son of the
fuller(of the cloth)'), of which the old Scots equivalent is 'Waulker',
derived from 'Walker', a Middle English form which comes from the Old English
'wealcere'. The form 'Walker' is also found in England, Ireland and elsewhere,
and although amongst the 30 most common names in Scotland, such ancestry
should not be assumed without genealogical or geographical evidence. Many of
todays Walkers were originally MacNucators, but as the name prospered in many
parts of Scotland devoid of Highland association, and given the widespread
distribution of the occupation, it seems most unlikely that many were related,
other than by continuation of the tradition of that trade within their own
family. Such trade names were not patronymics, but were used for the sake of
distinction within the particular clan or community in which they dwelt. In
1613-14, persons of this name in Balquidder, Perthshire were fined for reset
(sheltering) of members of the proscribed Clan Gregor, and in 1655 Patrick
McNowcatter was acting as procurator-fiscal for Argyll. Duncan McNowcater
(alias Mcmillan) in Ballyaurgan is recorded as a witness to a Dunmore
(Knapdale) sasine in 1666, and it is probable that those MacNucators (Walkers)
belonging to Argyll, especailly Knapdale, descend directly from the Clan
Macmillan. Several of this race are buried near Dunmore on West Loch Tarbert.
Whilst the bulk of MacNucators changed their name to Walker, there was a
Dundee family who retained the name Nucator. Some MacNucators followed the
Stewarts of Appin in the Rising of 1745, and there is a colony of Walkers
around Boisdale amd Daliburgh on South Uist. Helen Walker (d.1791) walked from
Scotland to London to petition for the life of a sister who had been condemned
to death for infanticide, and her story provided the model for Sir Walter
Scott's tale of "Jeanie Deans". Currently there is no clan chief, nor is there
an official clan tartan, but those who have Argyll ancestry and consider
themselves to be members of the Clan Macmillan, use the emblems of kinship of
that race as a mark of respect to the chief. Undoubtedly, many Walkers and
MacNucators will be able to trace an ancestry to areas dominated by other
clans, and if such association be established it is quite appropriate to adopt
their tartans etc.

Notes for Nathaniel MOWRY

It is possible that Nathaniel Mowry was a Quaker since he refused to take an
oath when he was called to serve on the jury of trials. He was fined 5
shillings for this refusal. His involvement in town affairs of Providence was
typical of prosperous young man. He settled at a place in Providence now known
as Sayle's Hill. On December 7, 1687, he brought in the head of a wolf that
was killed by his teenage son, Joseph. Nathaniel Mowry and his brother John
were associates of his father-in-law Edward Inman when he broke with the
townsmen of Providence in 1682 and negotiated a large land purchase of 3,500
acres directly with the Indians. The town eventually acknowledged the validity
of the land purchase. He was one of three Providence town constables chosen in
1693. In his will of 1718, he bequeathed to daughter Patience Smith and her
five sisters all his cattle and all his household goods after the death of his
widow. (source: findagrave.com)

Notes for Roger MOWRY

Roger Mowry was in Boston in May, 1631. He and Roger Williams applied together
to be admitted freemen but neither remained in Boston to accept. They were
subsequently both at Plymouth, then Salem, then Providence by 1652.

Nathaniel Felton of Salem, in a deposition 18 Sep 1700, declared Roger Mowry
had sold his land in the woods [farm at Danvers] to Emanuel Downing and had
removed from Salem before the year 1644. However, Essex Court papers, Vol. I,
p.67 show a warrant was issed to the constable to summon Roger Mowry & John
Elderkin [both of whom would later be in Providence] as witnesses in a case,
29th day 10th month, 1644.

[the words in italics were added at some later time in a different hand….]

By 1655, Roger Mowry is found as an innkeeper in Providence.
In early 1656, land was laid out in Providence at his request. 27 Aug 1656, he
had a house lot laid out upon the hill against Robert Williams's meadow.
15 Jan 1658, Roger Mowry bought a house and four acres from Robert Colwell
which he sold to Thomas Olney Sr of Providence on 19 Mar 1658/59.
7 Apr 1660, he was granted six acres of land and three acres of meadow in
exchange for other lands.
12 Jun 1660 Roger Mowry sold 90 acres, a mile outside of Providence to John
Acres of Dorchester.
23 Nov 1660 Henry Neale of Braintree, carpenter, sold Mowry everything he had
in Providence including his house, which had been purchased from Daniel
Comstock. 3 Feb 1661/62, Mowry sold the right of common that came with this
land to William Carperter.
4 May 1661, Anne Smith of Providence, widow of Samuel Comstock & John Smith,
sold Roger Mowry four acres in the row of houses in the north part of
Providence, next to a parcel already owned by Mowry.

Mary, Roger Mowry's widow, was made executrix of his estate - she refused; the
estate was insolvent. She later accepted administration but in 1677, after
King Philip's War, the administration papers and bond were missing as found
during a review of the town books. Son Jonathan later claimed at a Providence
town meeting that he had taken possession of 12 acres of upland that had been
his father's right, being the "son and heir apparent".

Notes for John NICKERSON

Captain John Nickerson was born 10 September 1664 in Yarmouth (now South
Dennis), Massachusetts to Nicholas Nickerson and Mary Derby Nickerson. He
married Elizabeth Baker in Yarmouth in 1696 and they had 9 children.

He was a sea captain, and chose the site of his home so that he could sail up
the Bass River in his schooner, drop anchor when it got too shallow, row the
rest of the way through what is still called Nickerson's Cove, then walk the
remaining 200 feet or so to his house.

He built two homes in the South Dennis area--the first at 248 Main Street,
just north of the "Sea Captain's Church" and the other directly across the
street from the church at 215 Main Street. He only lived in the second one a
short time before he died and when he died, his youngest son, Eleazer
inherited it. His oldest son, John inherited the first house. That house
stayed in the Nickerson family for 230 years, being sold to someone outside
the family in 1960.

He died in 1745 and is probably buried at the Ancient Burial Ground in South
Dennis.

Alice (maiden named unknown) Derby or Darby. Some researchers believe that
Mary was his only wife, but she would have been too young to have all his
children and likely was the mother of his last five children.

Notes for William NICKERSON

William Nickerson was born in about 1604 in Norwich, Norfolk, England, probably
to William and Alice Nickerson. It is believed that he was apprenticed to
his father as a tailor. He belonged to the Weaver's Guild of Norwich, having
been admitted as a worsted weaver and freeman in Norwich, England on 18 May
1632.
William Nickerson married Anne, daughter of Nicholas and Bridget (Cocke)
Busby, in about 1630 in Norwich. She was baptized/christened in St. Mary
Coslany Parish chuch in Norwich on 2 Feb 1607/8.
On 6 Apr 1637 a party was examined who "expressing a desire to go to Boston in
New England and set sail for the great adventure on the ship 'John and
Dorothy' of Ipswich, William Andrews, master." Among the party were William
Nickerson, age 33; his wife Ann, 28; and four children: Nicholas, Robert, Ann
and Elizabeth. They sailed from Yarmouth and arrived in Boston or Salem,
Massachusetts on 20 June 1637. William Nickerson's father and mother-in-law,
Nicholas and Bridget (Cocke) Busby, came over at the same time.
Likely the Busby and Nickerson families resided at first in Newbury and then
in Charleston, in t he Massachusetts Bay Colonty. In 1638 William took the
freeman's oath in Boston,
In about 1640, William Nickerson moved with his family to Yarmouth, on Cape
Cod in the Plymouth Colony. He took the oath of allegiance there on 1 June
1641, the same date that he was on a grand jury. He was declared a freeman at
the next court, being described as of Yarmouth.
William had a tendency to go against the grain. On 1 March 1641, there was a
complaint against him that he was a "scoffer and jeerer of religion." Trouble
with the local minister in Yarmouth, however, did not seem to affect his
standing as a citizen. He was on the list to bear arms at Yarmouth; served on
a committee headed by Capt. Standish to settle boundary disputes; and received
16 acres at Little Bass Pond in Yarmouth (now in Dennis).
Around 1656 he bought a large amount of land from Indian Chief Mattaquason and
son John Quason in Monomoy without consent of the colony’s authorities,
contradicting a 1643 law. He then moved to Boston to care for in-laws. That
same year William was at court for "buying lands of the Indians and for
selling them a boat" and was disenfranchised. In 1661-2 he was back in
Yarmouth with his family. On 4 July 1663 he presented a petition to settle a
township at Monomoyick. In 1664 William, at age 60, left Yarmouth with his
wife and all of his children, except Nicholas, for Monomoy. He must have been
confident the dispute would be settled as his children all cleared land and
built farms. At this age, he cleared land for his new home. In 1665, he was
charged with "illegally purchasing lands of the Indians," but was allowed 100
acres near his house, with the rest granted in equal portions among eight men.
In 1674 the Indian title to land was extinguished and a title from British
Crown legally established title of 50 acres to each of William’s children.
In 1678/9 and 1680, William purchased more land from the Indians, totaling
4,000 acres. Few, if any, colonists owned as much land.
William had a tendency to go against the grain. On 1 March 1641, there was a
complaint against him that he was a "scoffer and jeerer of religion."
Trouble with local minister in Yarmouth did not seem to affect his standing as
a citizen. He was on the list to bear arms at Yarmouth; served on a committee
headed by Capt. Standish to settle boundary disputes; received 16 acres at
Little Bass Pond in Yarmouth (now in Dennis).
When constable Thomas Howes of Yarmouth came to Monomoit to collect tax rates
in 1667, he was met with a hostile reception. That same year William and some
of his sons were set in stocks for resisting the constable in performing his
duty. William was committed to prison and remained there for three days.
The family had to travel 7-8 miles for public worship, so instead William read
scriptures to his family on the Sabbath. He became the spiritual leader of the
village. He wanted to build a meeting house when he bristled at being taxed to
build one in Eastham. In 1679 he received approval to be an independent
constablewick, but not a town because they could not support own minister.
His wife Anne died in about 1886 and William died between 30 Aug 1689 and 8
Sept 1690, at about 86 years of age. No will for him is found. He was buried
with his wife on a little hill south of his house. Sarah later deeded the
burial plot to the town. A memorial tablet was placed there in 1915 to honor
William. It is called Burial Hill or Pleasant Hill.

Burial Notes

~MY Ancestor~
According to the Nickerson Family Association, he was christened at St.
Peter's Permontergare, England.
William Nickerson came to America with his wife, ANN (BUSBY) NICKERSON, & four
of their children were on June 20, 1637 on the good ship, "JOHN & DOROTHY" out
of Yarmouth, England. He was about 33 years of age and was a "worsted weaver",
a trade he learned from his father, WILLIAM NICKERSON".
By 1641, the family had removed to Yarmouth in Cape Cod where he purchased a
large tract of land from the Indian sagaman, Mataquason in 1656. The Plymouth
Colony did not approve of this purchase, and it was challanged in court until
1678, during which time the family lived on this land.
William's later life was full of conflict. He was constantly in court suing or
being sued. He made fun of religion and caused disorder at Yarmouth town
meetings. On June 3, 1668, he and three of his sons (Samuel, Joseph & William,
Jr) were made to sit in the stocks for attacking the constable of Yarmouth in
his office.
Savage states that their children, Nicholas, Robert, Elizabeth, and Anne
immigrated to America, and adds Joseph (born in Yarmouth in December of 1647)
as a child.

Notes for Richard SEARS

Richard Sears,( son of John Bourchier Sears (Sayres) ), was born in 1590. He is
recorded as having been a member of Robinson’s Leyden Congregation before
coming to Plymouth (MA) in the New World during 1630; he was a Puritan by
religion. Richard married Dorothy Thatcher. Their children were, Paul, Silas
and ♥ Deborah. It is through daughter, Deborah Sears that this colonial line
is descended.

Richard Sears first appeared in Plymouth records in the tax list of March 25,
1633. His name did not occur in the 1634 tax list, and he may have moved to
Marblehead by then, although the first record for Marblehead places him there
in January 1637/8. Richard was living in Marblehead, MA in 1637 and was one of
the founders of Yarmouth, MA. He moved again, to Yarmouth, by 1639. He was
appointed assessor for Yarmouth on March 1, 1658/9, and constable on June 6,
1660.

Richard died September 26, 1676(1676-09-26) Yarmouth, Plymouth Colony, at
about 86 years of age. His wife Dorothy, died in the year 1680.

Source: FamilySearch.org.

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

His origins are not known at this time, though there have been several
different theories over the years. Many of these have been discredited.

Richard Sears arrived in Plymouth in 1632, then came to Essex County. He was
in Marblehead by 1637 and Yarmouth by 1639.

His wife's name, fairly confidently, has been established as Dorothy Jones,
who came from Dinder,Co.Somerset. There is a "Burial Unknown" memorial for her
at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/34753166/dorothy-sears.

Children: Paul Sears, Deborah Sears Paddock, and Silas Sears.

(The existence of a son Knyvet is completely fictitious, though his name lives
on in the 19th century cenotaph erected at the Ancient Cemetery at Yarmouth.)

It is not clear where he and his wife are buried, though they likely were
interred here, in the Ancient Sears Cemetery, which is located about 200 yards
from his homestead. However, it is just as possible they are at the Ancient
Cemetery at Yarmouth (see the cenotaph for him and his sons here:
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/48961743/richard-sears, or even somewhere
on the grounds of their homestead.

The cenotaph mentioned above was erected in 19th century, and is based on an
early family history that has since been debunked.

Notes for Anthony SNOW

Biography:

Robert Charles Anderson in the Great Migration Series published in 2015 states
Anthony Snow's parents and origins are unknown. We first have evidence of him
in the colonies in 1637. Please note he has no known relationship to Nicholas
Snow, they just happen to have the same name. We do not know what ship he
arrived on. Internet sites erroneously report that he was either the son or
brother of Nicholas Snow and Elizabeth Rowelles or Nicholas Snow and Constance
Hopkins but there is no evidence for either of these relationships.

Anthony Snow parentage: Volume VI, 2nd Edition of the "Mayflower Families 1-5
generations does not list Anthony Snow as a child of Constance Hopkins Snow
and Nicholas Snow. They married in 1627; Anthony is listed as being born about
1615 in England. Their first child is listed as Mark born 9 May 1628.
Anthony's only listed Mayflower connection is thru his wife Abigail Warren,
where his name does appear, but no parentage. Anthony and Nicholas might be
brothers, but have, as yet, found no definitive info. For example there is no
record at all that the two men exchanged any information, property, were
mentioned in will, etc. that one might expect if they were family.

He was one of the prominent men of Marshfield, MA

From the Find A Grave page on Anthony Snow:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=26588775

Birth: 1602 - Islington, England

Death: Aug., 1692 - Marshfield, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, USA

Anthony married Abigail Warren on November 8, 1639 in Plymouth, Plymouth
County, Massachusetts. To this union, 6 children were born.

There is no record of him until 1637 and his origins and parents are unknown
according to the most recent research published by Robert Charles Anderson in
the Great Migration Series (2015). He has not known relationship to Nicholas
Snow.

Abigail, when she married Anthony Snow of Plymouth, received as a marriage
portion from her mother, 9 Jan 1639, a deed for her "house situated near the
place called Wellingsley (alis) Hobshole, with the eight acres of land
thereunto adjoining."

Shortly after marriage Mr. Snow removed to Marshfield, where he became one of
the leading citizens of the town:

was surveyor of highways in 1651,
constable 1652,
representative to the General Court of Plymouth Colony in 1656 and
20 years following, selectman in 1666 and afterwards several years,
collector of the excise 3 June 1668, and
member of the Plymouth Council-of-War for Plymouth Colony in 1675.

Sometime before his death he gave to the town a piece of land near the meeting
house for a grave yard, where he is buried and which is still in use. His will
dated 28 Dec 1685, with codicil of 8 August 1692, named wife Abigail, and
children given below. Inventory of his estate taken 12 Nov 1692.

Anthony Snow was one of the last Marshfield downtown settlers for whom Snow
Road is named. He received one-half of the Thomas Prence grant in 1649. The
parcel included a part of Cedar Grove Cemetery that Snow gave to the town and
the swamp (Snow's Swamp) where much of the shopping and parking areas are
today. It also included land along Ocean Street easterly as far at the Bourne
grant (near Bourne Park Avenue). This flat land between the rivers were
meadows and streams, wetlands, and swamps.

Anthony Snow was a feltmaker by trade. He farmed and fished, served as a
constable and a deputy to the court, contributed a barrel of beef toward the
purchase of Bulkley's parsonage and served as one of the towns first selectmen
on 5 Apr 1667.

Many of downtown Marshfield businesses today are build on the land that belong
to Anthony Snow.

Anthony Snow's will dated 8 Dec 1685 is in possession of the Connecticut
Historical Society at Hartford, CT.

Buried at the Winslow Cemetery in Marshfield, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

Notes for Josiah SNOW

Biography == Reports of when Josiah Snow was born vary from 1639 (when his
parents married) to 1655 (when they had a "son, Snow"), as apparently no
official birth record for him has been found. Many family genealogies state he
was born March 25, 1655, but this is 10 years too late for his 1670 marriage
as men did not marry at 15 years old in the Puritan-led colony of Plymouth,
New England, in the 17th Century. Further, it's clear that Anthony and Abigail
(Warren) Snow's second son, who was born on March 25, 1655, died shortly after
birth and no Christian name has ever been found for him. The March 1655 birth
year has been copied in error by many genealogists.

The most-likely solution is that Josiah Snow was born in 1649 as he had
sisters born in 1645, 1647, and 1651... This would have made him 21 in early
1670, an age when many young men of that time and place were wed. It is known
that Josiah was the first-born son of Anthony Snow and Abigail Warren and from
his maternal grandfather Richard Warren, he is a Mayflower descendant.
Footprints In Time Genealogy on RootsWeb - Anthony Snow. Cites "Plymouth
Colony: Its History and People 1620-1691". In early 1670 (many
marriages were held shortly before spring-planting), when he would have been
21, Josiah Snow married Plymouth colony neighbor, Rebecca Barker, who was
about 18 years old (girls were considered adults at 18). She was the daughter
of Robert Barker, who had arrived in Plymouth in 1628 from Kent, England and
his wife, Lucy (Williams) Barker, of Scituate. Josiah and Rebecca (Barker)
Snow's first child: daughter, Abigail Snow, was born on December 6, 1670, in
Marshfield, Plymouth colony (Massachusetts), New England. The couple had a
total of 9 daughters: JOHN AND HELEN LEHMAN MASTER FILE DECEMBER 18, 2008

Josiah Snow was a carpenter in Marshfield, Plymouth colony (Massachusetts),
New England. He died there in August 1692. His widow filed an inventory of his
estate on January 3, 1693. The settlement of the estate of Josiah Snow of
Marshfield on November 3, 1693 mentions that there were then 8 living
children, all daughters, and their mother. "Richard Warren of the
Mayflower and His Descendants for Four Generations," published by the General
Society of Mayflower Descendants, pg. 21. Some genealogies state that
Rebecca (Barker) Snow remarried to widowerJohn Sawyer on November 23, 1694, in
Marshfield, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay province. They had no children as
Rebecca would have been about 55 years old by then.
